Must-Do Experiences at Olds Park – Featured on ‘Sydney Weekender’

Channel 7’s Sydney Weekender recently visited Olds Park in Penshurst, showcasing this incredible space as a vibrant destination for outdoor fun, sports, and community engagement. Presenter Teigan Nash explored the exciting transformation of this once quiet park into a dynamic and inclusive space for all. Whether you’re into sports, art, nature walks, or cultural events, Olds Park is the place to be. Here’s a look at what makes this park so special.

1. Sports Field: Basketball / Netball Court & Cricket Ground

For sports enthusiasts, Olds Park is a dream come true. The newly renovated park boasts state-of-the-art bright blue sports courts that cater to basketball and netball. The well maintained bright green field perfect for a game of cricket or simply a walk or jog with friends. Whether you’re shooting hoops with friends, playing a competitive game of netball, or enjoying a casual cricket match, Olds Park has all the space and facilities you need. The easy accessibility of these courts, located just behind the modern skate park, makes it an ideal spot for families or groups to enjoy a day of outdoor sports together.

2. The Revamped Skate Park – Built by the Community, For the Community

The skate park at Olds Park has a special place in the hearts of local skaters. Rebuilt following a passionate petition from the community, this upgraded facility reflects the spirit of local collaboration. The new skate park is now a top-tier space for skateboarding and BMX riding. The park’s connection to the past is reflected in its design, with the incredible dragon sculpture made from recycled materials – including old skate ramps and BMX bikes – telling the story of the park’s evolution.

3. Scenic Walking Trails and Community Events

Whether you’re taking a walk, jogging, or exploring on foot, the walking trails at Olds Park offer a chance to enjoy nature and escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The park’s green spaces are perfect for a peaceful stroll, and with the recent facelift, the trails are now more accessible than ever. The park is also a venue for hire which can be used for community events, cultural events and more, available to book through bookable.

4. An Artwork Piece

A standout feature is the magnificent dragon sculpture, designed by local artist Dylan, which incorporates elements from the old skate park. This piece serves as a tribute to the park’s history, while also contributing to its current identity.

5. The Library and Social Hub

Right next to the park is the Penshurst Library, a focal point for the local community. This modern, welcoming space is perfect for visitors of all ages. The library frequently hosts community events, such as storytelling sessions for kids, cultural talks, and educational programs. The synergy between the park and the library makes Old Park not just a place to play, but also a place to learn, gather, and connect.
