Perched gracefully along the tranquil banks of the Georges River, Kyle Bay captivates visitors with its serene ambiance and stunning views. It has been a long-held secret of Georges River locals as a great place to enjoy nature.
Kyle Bay was named after the settler Robert Kyle, who came to Australia in 1842 from Tyneside, England, with his wife Maryanne and son Alexander. From 1860, perhaps a little earlier, Robert and Alexander had a business building ships on their land at Kyle Bay. A further reminder of the suburb’s nautical beginnings can be seen in the name of Harness Cask Point, on the western side of Kyle Bay. A harness cask is a tub lashed to the deck of a ship and used for storing provisions such as salt pork – it was sometimes called ‘the scuttlebutt’, and sailors who gathered round the tubs to gossip were said to be ‘spreading the scuttlebutt’.
There are a small strip of eateries and coffee shops that have become the favourite of the locals and visitors. Kyle Bay offers visitors the perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the timeless beauty of this hidden gem along the Georges River
